Alternative Offers Display

Our booking engine displays alternative offers in case a traveler is searching for a stay where a certain room type or a bookable offer cannot be found.

Up to three alternative offers can be shown per room type.

Alternative offers are determined as follows:

  • Bookable offers are searched within a 30-day window starting up to two weeks prior to the traveller's searched check-in date.
    • For alternative offers the system searches for offers with the same length-of stay, for shorter stays and for longer stays (max 3 nights longer than the original search)
  • The closest alternatives to the original check-in date are sorted first, searching for dates both after and before the original check-in date.
    • If there are alternative offers with the same time difference before and after the original check-in date, the sorting will favour the offers after the original check-in date.
  • If multiple alternate offers are found with the same time difference to the original check-in date, they are sorted so that those with lengths-of-stay closest to the original search are displayed first.

The three slots for alternative offers will be filled by

  • an alternative offer with the same day of the week for check-in and the same length of stay
    • For example, if the traveller searched for a Sat-Sat combination, the system will search for a different Sat-Sat combination.
  • an alternative offer with same length of stay but different check-in day
    • For example, if the traveller searched for a Fri-Fri combination, the system will search for e.g. a Sat-Sat combination
  • any other bookable offer that is as close as possible to the original query, based on the above search and sorting criteria.

Display options for alternative offers

For the actual display of alternative offers 4 different modes are available:

  • Alternative Offers: Immediately bookable alternative options presented upfront, eliminating the need for a new search.
  • Alternative Dates: Display alternative bookable travel periods, triggering a new search upon selection.
  • "Fully Booked" Message: Clearly communicate room unavailability, while offering guests the option to reach out via email or phone.
  • Hide Room Type: For specific use cases, non-bookable rooms can be entirely hidden, catering to scenarios like company rates or event-based bookings.
